Hanger On

EXT. KIRSTIE’S DRIVEWAY – DAY

KIRSTY (31) and LUKE (33) stand in the driveway of Kirstie’s house and watch as an ambulance backs out and drives away.

LUKE
So want to go watch that movie then?

KIRSTY
Are you joking? We just watched our friend get taken away in an ambulance and you want to go watch a movie?

LUKE
Right, no, although it might help.

KIRSTY
Greg’s just gone to have major surgery, how is watching a movie going to help me forget that?

LUKE
Well he’s just having his appendix out. But you know, it’ll distract us, help both of us calm down after all the drama.

KIRSTY
The movie’s called Gutbusters, I don’t think that’s going to help me calm down.

LUKE
No, it’s not a favorable title.

KIRSTY
Look I’m to worried about Greg, I think I’ll just stay at home until we hear how it went.

LUKE
You shouldn’t worry about Greg, he’s always getting into this and that, something as simple as his appendix bursting is nothing. Trust me he’s gotten up to far worse. Not me of course, perfect appendix.

KIRSTY
Yeah, well I’m just going to head inside.

LUKE
Wait, what about if…we went to get a couples massage? That will have to relax us.

KIRSTY
Couples? You’re not trying to hit on me again are you? I told you I just want to be friends with both you and Greg. I don’t want to get between the two of you again.

LUKE
No, of course not, Greg’s my best friend. He’s not very reliable and has freakishly small hands, but I would never do anything like that to him. Especially not while he’s at the hospital. I’m worried too you know.

KIRSTY
Right, sorry, I just can’t stop thinking about him. I hope he’s okay. I think I’m just going to go have a lie down.

LUKE
Maybe I should come with you? I, I mean, I’m just going to be sick with worry if I’m sitting by myself at home.

KIRSTY
Well I’ll just be sleeping I don’t think I’ll be very good company.

LUKE
That’s fine I can just watch you, I mean watch TV. It’ll just be nice to know someone is in the house.

KIRSTY
I guess that will be okay.

Kirsty thinks.

KIRSTY (CONT’D)
You know it’s funny, you don’t realise how much you appreciate someone until you realise you might lose them. We’ll have to think of something nice to do for Greg once he gets out of the hospital.

LUKE
(under his breath)
Maybe we could run him out of town.

KIRSTY
What?

LUKE
Maybe we could get him a clown?

KIRSTY
We’ll…think of something.

Kirsty turns and enters the house, Luke is a few steps behind her.

LUKE
(to himself)
Damn you perfect appendix!
