Strawberries and Meth

INT. CAR – DAY

TOBIAS (25, high strung) in the passenger seat and ALLAN (26, easy-going) in the driver seat, drive down a long stretch of highway in the middle of the day. Off to the side of the rode a hand made sign is strung to a tree, it’s message messily spray painted on with black paint. It reads ‘Strawberries and meth, next left’.

TOBIAS
Heh, did you see that sign?

ALLAN
Yeah I know. I’ll pull over, I fucking love strawberries.

TOBIAS
Good one. Wait, are you joking?

ALLAN
No I really love strawberries. I thought you knew that about me?

TOBIAS
No, Allan. Did you fail to see the part that said ‘and meth’ after it?

ALLAN
Yeah, but I’m not going to buy any meth.

TOBIAS
So! We’re not going to buy strawberries either! They’re meth dealers Allan.

ALLAN
But I want fresh strawberries.

TOBIAS
How fresh do you think the strawberries of meth dealers is really going to be?

ALLAN
Well probably pretty fresh, I doubt they’re mixing the meth and strawberries together. They just happen to sell two products, they get a bigger target market that way. Good business really.

TOBIAS
No good business sells something and meth! How reckless are you? We’re not pulling over.

ALLAN
Well you might not be, but I am. I have strawberries on my mind now, I’ll go crazy if I don’t get some.

TOBIAS
I’m pretty sure that’s how people also feel about meth. You’re not pulling over Allan.

ALLAN
I am though, just chill out.

TOBIAS
You’re not.

ALLAN
I think I am.

Allen starts to take the exit towards where the strawberry/meth stall. Tobias reaches out and spins the steering wheel causing them to veer out back onto the road. Another car swerves around them with a blast of the horn. Allan pushes Tobias away, gets the car back under control, and pulls over. Allan stares at Tobias for a beat.

ALLAN (CONT’D)
And you call me reckless.

TOBIAS
We’re not going to a meth lab to buy strawberries.

INT. CAR – LATER

Allan eats happily from a punnet of strawberries. Tobias also munches slowly on one.

TOBIAS They just happen to be good strawberries.
