Mitosis – Act 1, Scene 15

This scene is part of the first draft of a screenplay I’ve written as part of my Masters. See past days to catch up on the rest of the story. Happy reading.

INT. RIO DE JANEIRO AIRPORT, RECEPTION – DAY

Daniel slumps against a reception desk in the airport. Behind it the RECEPTIONIST talks hurriedly on the phone in Portuguese. She hangs up the phone.

RECEPTIONIST
(in English)
We have found your luggage.

Daniel perks up.

DANIEL
Oh, that’s great.

RECEPTIONIST
It is in Prague.

Daniel slumps back down.

DANIEL
What?

RECEPTIONIST
Somehow it was put on the wrong flight, some kind of mix up at your airport.

DANIEL
No offence, but this country is already even worse than I thought.

RECEPTIONIST
(sarcastically)
How could I take offense at that?

DANIEL
So what happens now?

RECEPTIONIST
I’ve organized for your luggage to be sent here on the earliest possible flight. If you give me the name of your hotel it will be delivered there.

She hands Daniel a pen and paper.

DANIEL
I’ll give you my brother Nathan’s hotel, I’ll be staying with him.

He hands her back the pen and paper. She next hands him over a business card.

RECEPTIONIST
Also here is a number for you to call in case you travel again before your luggage arrives in order for you to tell us the location of your next destination.

Daniel takes the card.

DANIEL
I’ve already had all the travel I can take. Trust me once I find my brother, he and I will be returning straight home and away from this horrible city.

RECEPTIONIST
No offense taken.

DANIEL
What?

RECEPTIONIST
Enjoy your stay.
